Start with what moves you
Listen to the songs you return to. Notice whether it is the voice, the rhythm, a particular lyric or the space around the melody that draws you in. Write those observations down without trying to copy the entire song.
Experiment in small steps
Try singing the same lyric with different melodies or rhythms. Changing one element at a time helps you hear what each choice contributes. A quiet phrase may carry more emotion than a complicated run.
Leave room for change
Your musical direction does not have to be settled immediately. Keep the ideas that feel honest and revisit them later. Over time, repeated choices can reveal the beginnings of your own voice.
